Clinicians sometimes prescribe oral minoxidil off-label for hair loss. It needs an individual assessment of cardiovascular health, other medicines and potential side effects.
Your assessment helps a clinician decide what fits. Choosing a product does not guarantee a prescription.
Oral minoxidil is prescribed off-label for hair loss at the provider’s discretion and carries a serious warning for cardiac side effects. It should be avoided if you’re pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding. Increased hair growth on the face or body (hypertrichosis) is the most common side effect; it’s more common in women than men and when taking over 5 mg per day. Shedding in the first few weeks is normal and resolves as new hair grows in, usually in about a month.
